A bit of history about me and my music

First and foremost I just wanna say hi and thank you for visting my page!

My name is Bobby McGrath and I hail from a city in England called Peterborough, I am an avid fan of music and have been playing guitar self taught for 12 years. I first began playing when I was 13 and like many of us I began playing the old classics like System of a Down, Nirvana and The White Stripes whilst learning how to play. As I grew older my musical tastes began to move towards heavier musical genres and I started listening to stuff like Slipknot and Cradle of filth and with that my intrest in more complex guitar riffs and techniques began to take up a huge deal of my time like trying to learn harmonics and sweeps in the early hours of the morning (much to my mums dismay!)

When I turned 17 I joined a local band in my city and played metal inspired by Bullet for my Valentine and Trivium ect. It gave me a chance to play local shows (including a battle of the bands in front of 200 people which was scary!) and also got me interested in the recording aspects of music as I would do basic live drum recordings at band practice on an old multitrack recorder with a cheap microphone attatched and then record the guitars, bass and vocals at home with my bandmates and then mix it on free home recording software  (on a crappy old PC that i owned) and put it onto CDs to give away after our shows.

Unfortunatly the band ended but my friendship with the ex members remained and I was introduced by the drummer to Necrophagist which changed my world! I had heard stuff by Nile when I was younger and it blew me away but there was something about the sound of Necrophagist that sent me crazy for Technical Death Metal and I spent almost all my time locked in my room trying to master material by Nile, Necrophagist and Spawn of Possesion but failed greatly at times!

As time went by I had a family and stoped focusing on music for a while to spend time with them but never did I put my guitar down and the love of Tech Death and home recording stayed with me until I felt ready to get making music again. In 2012 I started learning more advanced techniques in recording (though I will admit this skill is very limited for me!) and began work on a band on my own called Perceptions which was a Progressive 8-string Metal project inspired by elements of Jazz, Metal and Ambient music and started making tracks with my newly aquired knowledge in recording. Thankfully I have always had a good natural rhythm so I  started to learn how to write drums on guitar pro (as I can literally only play basic slow tempo 4/4 beats on real drums!) and then learnt how to make the programmed drums sound realistic as well as learning bass, keyboards whilst attempting to get a good beefy guitar sound too, but despite all this effort over the course of a year and a half I didn't get the agression and feeling I wanted from my music so I decided to create a side project called Rise of the Nephilim in January 2014 to release some  of my creative agression!

I had always wanted to play Technical Death Metal but my musical skills have always been too limited so I always put it off, but with the newfound confidence I gained from learning how to play these different instruments and recording skills I decided that the time was right to pursue my favoured musical direction. When looking for themes to build my music around I decided the obvious choice would be Conspiracies as I have always been interested in the works of David Icke as well as the world of conspiracy theories and the unexplained so I knew that I wanted to fuse my love of Tech Death with these themes in my new project but I knew that I would need to study music theory to make more refined, authentic Technical riffs then I was capable of so I started to study rudimentary theory to get off the ground (though again my knowledge is still very limited!) and started working on riffs throughout 2014. Once I had gained a level of competance I felt was suficient enough to make technically competant music I started writing full length tracks whilst still retaining the progressive elements from my previous works in my new music giving birth to the first official song which I called "Orwellian Nightmare" inspired by George Orwell's novel Nighteen Eighty-Four (I say first "official" song as the first song I posted as Rise of the Nephilim was called the "Annunaki Realm" and was an old song that I made but re-recorded for the purposes of getting my project up and running and will more than likely become a bonus track when the album is complete) this track was then followed by "Prophecy of the Ten Kings", "Devolution of a Species" and most recently "The Hologram Pardox" (released 3 days ago as of writing this). I hope to have my début full length album which I have already named "Subliminal" released sometime in 2015, but of course I will gradually release these tracks for free via the above soundcloud link over the next coming months too so keep your eyes peeled.

Well thanks for making it this far in my long winded mini autobiography and if you enjoy my music please share it so others may mosh to some Conspiracy Metal themselves!! :)

Cheers my friends!
